Evaluation Q3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I think the media institute IPC would be goo to distribute my POP magazine. This is because there magazines are very popular and up to date, so there more than likely always looking to add some new magazines to the mix. Speaking of this, currently IPC only distributes 1 music magazine and that is NME,I think my POP magazine would work in contrast of this because they attract completely different audiences, however because of this IPC wuld then generate more consumers as they're distributing a mixture of genres-which will benefit them greatly.
IPC also distributes popular fashion/gossip maagzines such as Look and Now.The tag line of my music magazine is ‘gossip.music.fashion’ so theses already exssiting magazines link into what mine features to.Like these magazines ive included well known names to try and attract the audience such as the world biggest boyband One Direcetion, also Little Mix,Justin Beieber and Miley Cyrus all high profile celebs who’ll grab the readers attention. My POPmagazine itself is also set out similary to these, the layout is fairly conventional and could be red by a multitude of audeinces, which is really handy.
By distributing my POP magazine IPC could attract new consumers, and open a new section in the magazine business where different genre styles are offerd.Because of IPCs exsisting magazine sucsess, and the way mine looks fairly similar but offers very different content s really re assuraing because more than likely my magazine could be a new sucsess for te institute if they were to distribute it.I also feel asof theres agp I the markey for my media product,by IPC doesn't offer anything like this currently I think it’ll be really good opportunity for me and the institute to.It’d gain my magazine awareness but alsogain them consumers.
It’d gain my magazine awareness but also gain them consumers. When making my music magazine I was aware of althe other pop magazines out there I felt the majority looked quite dated, so I took inspiration from the ones that were still selling.I also looked at other magazine such as Fashion, gossip, beauty related etc and found out what makes people by them magazines.By doing this I felt I created a very up to date modern POP magazine that offers the content that wants to be read.IPC also have experience with distributing music magazines like NME,because of this, this means they'd be able to distribute my magazine quickly and efficiently as they already have awareness of the market.
In contrast a media institute such as EMAP would be a bad institute to distribute with.Because of the nature of my magazine and how new it is, it'll need an institute that can offer it as much awareness as possible and be able to make it sucsessful. However, because of EMAPs lack of experience with distributing music magazines the likely of hood of my magazine gaining the potential it possibly could is low.EMAP distribute magazines such as Retail and nursing magazines. Although it good to add something different to the mix,I feel there collection of magazine is extremely different and I don’t think my new POP magazine would do well published with this institute.
Evaluation Q2
How does your media product represent social groups?
When creating my media product I was aiming it a stereotypical younger age range, swaying more towards girls but overall a uni-sex magazine. When looking at my magazine I think its instantly noticeable what social group its aimed at. It features artists such as Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus etc, artists liked globaly by the young generation. Because of this its noticeable what social group/target audience I'm aiming at. If I wanted to attract a more mature age range id feature artists more appealing to them so there more inclined to buy the magazine. However because I want to target the younger audience I featured these ones. Also my colour range is quite bold and wacky, something a younger person would be more attracted to. Stereotypically a more mature age range would go more for sophisticated more thought out layout such a magazines like Vogue etc. However because my magazine is bright and jam packed with content and images, its more appealing on the eye to those who are younger.
When researching for my magazine I also used a demographics table to target my social groups (audience) more effectively.I aimed to target blocks E,D & C2 mainly. This is because these blocks included young people/students etc. By looking at this I felt I could pin point the type of social group I want to represent with my magazine more effectively. This allowed me to create my magazine in a way that’d be appealing to this social group, were as a contrasting social group who like Rock music. This social group would more than likely stay away from my magazine because it is not what appeal to them, but because I'm targeting a social group that likes POP music this will really appeal to them.
Because of my bold use of colours and selective choice of artists I believe my magazine represents a young social group very well.I feel it appeals to their needs, and would entice them to buy it.As all the latest artists of their favourite genre are featured.Ive also used corresponding features to the genre within the plug.I featured the hottest fashion picks by an artist. So not only is clothes/makeup a really popular thing within this type of social group its featured with a well known artist.
Also because my magazine has content of gossip, music, fashion its going to attract social groups who are interested in this to.I wanted to make sure that audience I was targeting knew this magazine was aimed at them.I tried to keep as conventional as possible, and feature everything youd expect ot see it that genre. So my POP magazine represents social groups who enjoy reading this kind of media.
